Joe Hilton, Jr. was born November 15, 1919, in Manning, S.C. to the late Rev. Joe and Margaret Hilton. He was the fifth of ten children. During his childhood years, Joe received much religious training, at home. As a result, he accepted Christ, into his life at an early age, and became an active, enthusiastic member of Mt. Calvary FBH Church, in Manning. Since his youth, he has exhibited a great love and fervor for the church and was always an extremely good Sunday School student. He was a good singer, having sang in a quartet with his brothers.

Always a hard worker, Joe Hilton, Jr. was employed by several local companies, including the former Quaker Oats Company and Babcock and  Wilcox. He retired from B.F. Goodrich, in April 1984 with more than 40 years of continuous service.

Hattie Dinkins-Hilton is the oldest of 6 children born to Blanche Bowman and Neason Dinkins. She was born on September 16, 1921, in Manning, South Carolina.

At the tender age of 11, Hattie began cooking and caring for her siblings, as a way of helping out, while her mother worked full-time to provide for the family. Her cooking and caring abilities developed and blossomed into awesome hospitality skills, which she used to feed and house countless pastors, evangelists, church members, friends, and many others… in addition to caring for and feeding her own family.

Hattie accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior, at the age of 13 during a revival at her home church… Mt. Calvary Fire Baptized Holiness Church. Not only did she meet the Lord there, but that is also where she met the love of her life… Joe Hilton, Jr. They dated for about five years, before marrying on April 7, 1940.

Joe and Hattie have enjoyed a fruitful life, raising a family of 9 children, which now includes 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mayor Don Plusquellic proclaimed April 9, 2010, as "Joe and Hattie Hilton Day"!
